The New Student Council
By Anna Minino (7-2)
Divine Wisdom Catholic Academy has welcomed a new Student Council. The student council consists of President, Keren Elmore (8th); Vice President, Grace Bekios (7th); Treasurer, Jacklyn Coglianese (6th); and Secretary, Matthew Lau (5th). Along with the officers, there are a set of two class reps for each class.
The representatives are the voice for their class “I will add my class’ input and suggestions for them to be heard,” Kate Estevez says, the class representative of 7-2 alongside Marisa Mamak. The roles of the officers are very important. The president’s role is to lead all meetings, to present all ideas of the student council, and to lead prayers during morning announcements. The vice-president’s job is to work closely with the president, to fill in for the president when absent, and lead in the pledge of allegiance. The treasurer’s job is to handle all the money for student council. Finally the secretary’s job is to write down the minutes of the meeting and write down all ideas discussed. Mr. DiSiena, the computer teacher, is the student council co-moderator along with Ms. Brunkhorst. Though Mr. D was never in student council, he said that he is a student council co-moderator because he enjoys helping the students. “I enjoy helping people and getting to know the students. I also enjoy seeing students work together,” Mr. D says. Working together is something that the students on the council constantly have to do.
